In my culture slang is as day to day as breathing to humans in my culture. I use it in every conversation more so when it is in an informal settings. I use slang because it is a part of me and trying to be or sound "proper" might rub of wrongly to the regular folk that I interact with on a daily basis, can loosely say that I would not fit in in being Standard always. I have mixed feelings to ways the Standard English and its use. The literates expressed in using slang sometimes confuses me as to when to actually use slang. They recognize the use of slang as its own language but still want us to use the Standard English.
I think i use slang correctly because i had a lot of practice. Everyday of my life i grew up hearing and speaking that way so I'm really verse in using slang properly. It might differ now in age because people of the older times might have differ saying to what the younger one use but I think I use it well enough. I believe I use slang correctly because I have an understand as to where it is okay and when it is not. Slang can be use better among my friends my peers. The Standard English is better used in school, office settings for it is said to be showing a sense of professionalism, whether its in saying or writing. I believe even in these journals slang can be used because it is an informal settings.

An effective verbal communicator I think, I am not. I believe there is a lot of work for me to be an effective verbal communicator. Firstly I stutter a little when it comes to expressing myself or getting the right words to express myself. The words seem to be stuck to the tongue and it sometimes annoys me. I believe I need a lot of work in that area starting with slowing down the speed level of which i speak taking my time when i talk so, people can understand what i say.
In understand and demonstrating linguistic sensitivity i believe i have some sensitivity towards the subject. As it known understanding is not just knowing word for word but, taking the time to think about the person language, body movements and culture. Shows how prior and background knowledge can lead to a greater understanding can lead me into understanding of things some people might say. Just think about the words alone might be wrong but understanding there body language and culture can lead to a better understanding. I try to have this in my day to day interaction with people so I can understand them or have a better understanding of them.

27 year-old robbery case
'Evidence missing after 1990 coup'
by Keino Swamber of the Daily Express Friday October 7th, 2011.
After reading this article in the daily express of Friday 7th October 2011, It was usually convenient to see that evidence continues to be missing when held or stored in police facilities. The article explain that in a robbery case that has been going on for a number of years had some substantial evidence of a fingerprint of the alleged has gone missing. When police where question about the evidence there just wasn't any answer to give by the police, They couldn't say if the video cassette still exist. The Representative from the police went further that there was a fire for the 199- coup where the Port of Spain Police Headquarters was burnt, but reassured the Magistrate that he's not saying the tape was burnt.
Still bewildering that from all those year to now the same things happens when evidence is stored in police store rooms. I know we all humans and make mistakes and even Police can make mistakes but some manner of professionalism should also be used to find of have an account for missing evidence. In having a high level of professionalism sure most cases that are ongoing can come to a close.

All the cultures in the presentations where really interesting. It is really hard to just pull out on the strange one. The one that was the weirdest was the culture from he Eastern Hemisphere the Japanese. The Japanese culture is very strange. Especially the way they have a there expression. There expressions and there sayings are really cool. Its hard to believe they came up with these little gestures and saying all on there own, but they have so much its was surprising and very interesting.
In the Japanese culture everything i learned was new and because I am aware of it makes me look at it from a different angle, as to why they as a people would do things a certain way. So in the future if i ever have communication with the Japanese I could or try not to offend them or there culture when communicating.

Entry #6 is a summary of our class presentations. The class where split into groups and topics where chosen within the groups to choose a culture and have a short presentation about there culture and communication. There was a special bonus which involved making a dish and sharing it amongst class mates.
First Group did there presentation on the Nigerian culture and the words and folklore that they brought with them from there native homes to Trinidad. it was quite interesting in that i learn that most folklore in Trinidad has Nigerians orgins example the 'Papa boway" 'dawhens" where all there folklore. There saying was also so familiar when I heard my classmates present there topic example of that was never let people walk over you cause you'd be short etc. The Dress and the Music was also presented. The food was explained as the Nigerians love to cook with a lot of pepper.
Another group did the Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago. They went in to there presentations saying the culture of the Muslims and the meaning of the words that are commonly known, for example the meaning of 'muslim' 'Allah' and the prayer book they used which was the called the 'Qur'an.' A passage from the Qur'an was also read that made a short explanation of why women dress on way. The food that they presented was 'sawine' which is a traditional sweet of local Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago.
Hindu culture was presented by another group. The East Indians which came to the Trinidad by boat and brought along there culture, as well as indigenous cultures that they created here amongst themselves. I learned more about there earlier life styles and religion. The festival of 'divali' and 'Pagwah' and there food of roti and some of there local sweets.
The next group was was interesting to me was the Palestine culture. This group took time and went into a detail explanation of the early culture of the Palestine. They examined the very foundation of the culture and how the country started the dress code and that religion. The food of Palestine where also explained and shared among the class.
Then there was the Japanese culture. To me this was the most interesting, The Japanese culture and there belief that communication is more on body language than anything else. The Food although not shared among the class was very interesting but very expensive, true Japanese dishes. There dress code was very much in there own expression of self in comparison to there traditional wear of representing the season and there favourite was autumn and the colour design, with the cherry blossoms. There ways a influence by much of there ancient culture and continued toward this very day.

My culture and the way I communicate I believe goes hand in hand, its what makes me fit in into my society from verbal to nonverbal behaviors. I am a Trinidadian and 'trinis' have a special way about them as to the mixture of our cultures (because of our cosmopolitan society) each and every culture has an every day impact on one another.
My culture influences my speech because it brings different words into my vocabulary that others may not comprehend explain 'sick' meaning good" or "its bad" meaning the same as 'sick' which is good. Also, because of the nature in which we are grown, sometimes or most times we never actually pronounce or 'Th' words, words like "together" or the name 'Ruth' or even one of the most common words like "the" most times are mispronounced without using the 'Th' sound.
As to body language my culture has a lot and so much things can misinterpreted or have misinterpretations. Communication is when your being both verbal and non verbal together in natural speech. In my culture being a Trinidadian we use body language to express a lot of what we like or dislike or even in respect. As 'staring in the eyes' means a sign of respect or attention, the 'skinning up of the face' can mean you don't like what you hear rather than to what you smell.

Entry # 4
My perspective of me and my identity, this has to be the most interesting topic I wrote on, MY SELF. This is interesting because everyone has an up and down real as to what self could be. Self perception is an definition of what or better who it is to be Quincy Campbell.
Me who am I ? I am person that knows his strengths and weaknesses and everyday that I remember try to build on and grow stronger as a person and an individual in society. i stand up for my likes I stand up or sometimes passive to my dislikes. I say stand up for my likes its that I know what I like and nothing can influence me in other wise unless its a life or death but still respect what others have to say or influence me to try. I try to think and build my my perspective on the lords last comment "do onto others as you would like them do onto you" or "love each other as you would love yourself." Its so simple but it works.
Live and Let live its the other basic perspective on life I can't hate you for wanting or moving a certain way that your choice and we all have reasons for it. I love myself and i try not to let things bother me and that basically Quincy Campbell.
